Oasis vs. Wilco

An easy battle? Well, yes, sorta.

I saw Oasis live recently. They were good, very solid musically. I also saw Wilco. They were better. However, I was substantially closer at the Wilco show, so that may have played a small part.

Also, Oasis just do not move around during their show. They are like rocks on stage. They will play an exciting guitar solo and barely move. While wilco will play a less exciting guitar slowly and jump around like apes on cocaine. The apes on cocaine effect actaully contributed positively to my enjoyment of the show. Odd.

I once saw the Rolling Stones in concert. The opening band that night was the Spin Doctors. (You know "Two Princes.") The lead singer was doing back flips and shit during the entire set. It detracted from my enjoyment of their show because it looked comical.

I saw Talib Kweli once as well. He just walked around and made some hand gestures. He did not embarass himself but all the excitement of the show came from his lyrical and rapping abilities as opposed to his showmanship.

Thus, I have absolutely no theory on the appropriate amount of moving around by an artist during a concert.
